Our mission | To reduce hunger and empower communities through gardening.
Our model | Neighbors Nourishing Communities supports gardeners with seeds, plants, tools, soil, and education. Local community gardeners provide 20% or more of their garden produce to those in need of nutritional assistance. This produce amounts to thousands of pounds of locally grown fruits and vegetables donated to the food bank each year.
We work with community organizations to acquire community garden space that is given to those that would like to garden for their families, but don’t have the resources.
Throughout the year we provide gardening and cooking education. Our preserving classes increase our community’s access to nutritious food in the non-growing seasons.
We conduct education classes in local schools and fund infrastructure to support school gardening programs and engage students in service learning. Our past projects have consisted of indoor growing stations and we are currently working with the city of Tualatin to construct a greenhouse at a local elementary school.
Neighbors Nourishing Communities is working toward the building of a greenhouse for students and community of Bridgeport Elementary School in Tualatin, Oregon!
